About Us

At 700 Union Street, a few blocks from Pike Place Market, Union Arts Center has carved out something rare in Seattle's cultural landscape: a theater space where the performance grips you before the curtain even rises. Audiences who came for A Christmas Carol described actors so committed to their roles that applause felt inadequate. That kind of electricity doesn't happen by accident.

The lobby alone earns its own reviews. Visitors stepping through for the first time in recent seasons have noted the architectural warmth of the space, a downtown theater that feels intimate rather than cavernous. The programming reflects that same intentionality. Vanessa Severo's one-woman portrait of Frida Kahlo drew standing ovations not just for its artistry but for the raw personal storytelling layered beneath the subject. This is a venue that trusts its audiences to handle real emotion.

With a 4.8-star rating across nearly a thousand reviews, Union Arts Center has built its reputation performance by performance, season by season. It operates as a nonprofit, which means every ticket sold goes back into the work on that stage and the artists who make it happen.

What We Offer

Union Arts Center programs across multiple disciplines, from full theatrical productions and solo performance pieces to community events and private venue rentals. The mainstage season typically anchors around major productions like the beloved annual staging of A Christmas Carol, while the calendar also features intimate solo shows, artist residencies, and collaborative projects with Seattle's broader creative community.

The venue itself is available for corporate events, private gatherings, and nonprofit programming, offering a distinctive downtown Seattle address and a fully equipped performance space. Whether you are attending as an audience member or booking the space for your own event, the team brings the same care to logistics that the performers bring to the stage.

Subscription packages and single-ticket options are available through the website, with preview performances often offered at reduced rates for early audiences willing to be among the first to see new work.

"This is such a beautiful theater space in the heart of downtown Seattle! I visited for the first time in November 2025 to see the preview performance of A Christmas Carol. Upon entering, the lobby staff and volunteers were extremely friendly. There is a small concession with drinks and snacks near the coat check. The show itself was phenomenal, including all of the special effects and gorgeous costumes. Highly recommend!"

"I just got back from watching Vanessa Severo in her one woamn show: Frida... a self-portrait. Brilliant, emotional, intense and surprisingly, quite a bit about Vanessa's own very powerful life story. It sounds cliche, but it was truly a roller-coaster of emotion from giggles to tears, from intense joy to nearly unbearable suffering. If you can get a ticket, do not miss this show!"

"Can’t recommend this place enough, it was amazing! Truth be told, 5th Ave theatre was the choice every year, but this year we took a chance with ACT, and it was beyond our expectations. Amazing acting, intimate setting with the stage, and an incredible experience overall. Christmas Carol was awesome, definitely get your tickets if you can."

"Such an intimate venue for a play. We've come here for the last ten years to watch A Christmas Carol and love every visit. We select different seats each year for a different vantage and see new things every time. The floor seats put you right in the action, and the higher seats are still close enough to see and hear everything going on."
